The first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic: HEXACO profiles affect coping mechanisms and adaptability of response

Our primary objective was to investigate whether HEXACO personality profiles predict different coping strategies during the first wave of COVID?19 pandemic. We chose a person-centered approach as it enabled visibility personal structures differentiating between adaptive and maladaptive in nonclinical sample. Latent profile analysis identified three distinct profiles, each complemented by its specific choice strategies. The Resilient (conscientious extroverts) used focused on stressor (Problem-focused, Emotion-focused coping, Humor); Undercontrolled (conscienceless) turned Avoidance problem-solving strategies; Overcontrolled (emotionally reactive conscientious introverts) avoided Humor handling their own emotions. Combination Conscientiousness scores differentiated resilience. However, high Emotionality conjunction with Introversion produced both vulnerability maladaptation. Absence is paramount feature Thus, related variance stress response mostly determined traits responsible for control, proactivity, affectivity.
